As we commemorate 15 years of dedication to sustainable practices and excellence in salvaging old wood and manufacturing stunning reclaimed wood products, we take pride in the journey that has brought us to this significant milestone.
Spoiler alert, we are having a birthday party at our factory on the 18th of May!
From our humble beginnings to becoming a beacon of reclaimed wood quality in the decking and flooring industry, the story of Kaltimber is one of resilience, passion, and unwavering commitment to our mission.
Rooted in Sustainability
Fifteen years ago, Kaltimber was founded by Yoga Sofyar and Alex Ryan with a bold vision—to revolutionise the timber industry by championing sustainable practices and ethical sourcing of wood that has already been used for building bridges, roads, warehouses and more!
How to have certified recycled ulin available as a construction timber, while also raising awareness of how current laws on ulin protection are being circumvented for illegal trade? Armed with this vision and a deep-seated respect for our planet's natural resources, we set out on a mission to make a positive impact on both the environment and the communities we serve.
After the company’s takeover in 2017 by current owner Guillaume Carnevale, these ethical roots have been nurtured to ensure that the founders’ legacy was as preserved as our forests should be.
Building a Legacy, One (salvaged) Timber at a Time
But of course, improvement has been made over the years and Katimber is now a state-of-the-art factory. Over the past 15 years, we have transformed the landscape of the timber industry, leading by example and proving that sustainable practices are not only possible but also essential for the long-term health of our planet. Through our commitment to orangutan’s protection, responsible forestry, reclaimed wood, and reforestation programs, we have not only minimised our client’s construction environmental footprint but also set new standards for the industry as a whole. Why cut down new trees while so much wood is available to be salvaged?
Innovation and Adaptability
But our journey hasn't been without its challenges. From navigating changing regulations to overcoming logistical hurdles and a worldwide pandemic, we have always remained agile and adaptable, continuously seeking out new ways to innovate and improve. This has been visible in the factory, in the refurbished showroom (a couple of years ago), but also through weekly staff training. Whether it's through the addition of new machinery, or the expansion of our product line, we are committed to staying at the forefront of sustainability and pushing the boundaries of what is possible to offer architects, contractors and home owners the products necessary for their dreams to come true.
A Community of Change makers
Central to our success over these 15 years has been the incredible community of partners, customers, and team members who have supported us every step of the way. Together, we have built more than just a company—we have built a movement, united in our shared commitment to creating a more sustainable future for generations to come.
Looking Ahead: The Next 15 Years
As we celebrate this milestone, we also look to the future with optimism and determination. The next 15 years hold endless opportunities for growth, innovation, and impact, and we are excited to continue our journey of sustainability and excellence.
A great example of the next part of this journey will be the upcoming opening of Naturanexa, set to be inaugurated mid-june, and dedicated to supply reclaimed wood building components such as window or door frames.
Thank You
To all who have been a part of this remarkable journey—our customers, partners, and team members—thank you. Your support, dedication, and passion have been the driving force behind our success, and we are deeply grateful for each and every one of you.
Here's to the next 15 years of sustainability, quality, innovation, and positive change. Together, we can fulfill our property needs while building a brighter future for our planet and all who call it home.
