We all know what happened to Amazon Rainforest, with the continuous wildfires that it experienced, we cannot deny the fact that there is a shortage on wooden resources because of such disaster. But not only that, even before such calamity, we are already battling shortage of wooden materials because of rampant and intentional logging beyond the legality.
It is a known fact that each country has their own guidelines, parameters and law in terms of taking care and utilization of the natural resources. But there are just some evil minds that circumvent the law and doing away with it. In almost all Nation especially in the Asian Region, there are a lot of illegal loggers that cut trees without permit or with cutting permits but goes beyond what is proper.
Studies have shown, or even in elementary schools, it is widely known that it is easier to cut trees but a lot difficult to grow and take care of one. It would take tons of years for us to be able to cut another tree again. And mind you, even though in some parts of the world, as they practice the manner of planting a tree for every tree cut and uprooted, the ratio in terms of period is not proportional. It simply means that we are cutting more but growing less.
And even a child knows that time will come, all our resources will be gone if we still follow this norm. The solution lies on the law implementing and its punishment for illegal loggers. In some parts of the world, the penalty is only fine for every volumes of wood cut. That will not make the problem go away. Instead, it only opens the door for illegal loggers to cut more trees because they know that they can do away with just paying the fine in the event that they get caught.
The solution is to amend laws on each countries pertaining to illegal logging. Countries like Philippines have transitioned and evolve its penalties to imprisonment aside from paying fine. Another solution is to increase license fees in cutting trees. In that regard, loggers will think twice if they will still engage in such businesses. There is no other way but to give power to such laws and implement it faithfully.
There is a saying that too much is bad. In the same vein, too much cutting of trees is bad not only to the economy but to environment as well. This is an urgent measure that can be able to be addressed immediately. Remember, we still have to battle natural occurrence such as wildfires that also eradicate wooden resources.
Truly indeed, there is still a way to battle this calamity, whether man made or natural disaster. All we have to do is to faithfully abide by what should be done. And for illegal loggers out there, the issue of intergenerational responsibility is at stake. The generations of today and tomorrow can suffer by your illegal acts. So, straighten up now.
